Methodology note · 27 July 2026

How Entrio reconciled a real year to FreeAgent.

Entrio is new, so we cannot show you customer case studies yet. What we can show is arithmetic a sceptical accountant can check. This page is the write-up behind the FreeAgent claim on every proof band: what was compared, what had to be posted, and what agreed.

Entrio doesn’t replace your accounting software. It replaces the hours before you open it.

What we compared

  • Company: Nanoswift Ltd — Entrio’s operating company (not a synthetic demo firm).
  • Period: 29 January 2025 to 31 January 2026.
  • FreeAgent result: retained profit for the period was a loss of £929.35.
  • Entrio path: bank statements imported, categorised on rules, double-entry posted, then year-end accruals journalled through the product’s manual journal tools.

What had to be true before it agreed

Cash movements alone never produce a full accruals-basis P&L. FreeAgent already held the finished year. Entrio had the bank history. The remaining differences were documented accruals items — four of them — posted as balanced journals. After those four postings, Entrio’s loss matched FreeAgent’s exactly.

That is the claim: not that Entrio “talks to FreeAgent”, but that a real year can be reconstructed to a figure another system already treats as correct, using rules, review and journals a firm would actually run.

What this does not claim

Not claimed

  • A FreeAgent (or any) live integration
  • That every client year will match without professional judgement
  • That bank import alone produces a finished set of accounts

What it does show

  • Double-entry that can hold a full year
  • Journals for the adjustments accounting software expects
  • Agreement to the penny against an independent system

Source materials retained internally include FreeAgent’s trial balance and P&L exports for the period. This note is written for trust, not for SEO volume. If something here stops being how the product works, treat it as a bug in the page.

Questions a sceptic asks

Pick the claim apart.

Is this a FreeAgent integration?

No. Entrio does not connect to FreeAgent (or Xero, Sage or QuickBooks). The check was a manual, line-by-line comparison of figures prepared in Entrio against FreeAgent’s own profit and loss for the same company and period. Entrio still finishes at a reviewed trial balance you hand to the software you already use.

Which company and period?

Nanoswift Ltd (company number 16216561 — Entrio’s operating company), accounting period 29 January 2025 to 31 January 2026. FreeAgent’s retained profit for that period was a loss of £929.35. Entrio matched that figure exactly once the four year-end accruals were posted.

What were the four accruals?

Documented year-end adjustments posted through Entrio’s manual journal tools (the same path a firm uses for accruals, prepayments and similar). Every remaining gap against FreeAgent before those journals was an accruals item, not a coding discrepancy in the bank history. The journals balanced; the ledger would not accept an unbalanced entry.

Can I repeat this on my own data?

Yes in spirit: import the bank statements, categorise on rules you control, post the adjustments your accounts need, then compare the trial balance or P&L to the system you already trust. The FreeAgent check is evidence that the double-entry path can reach agreement — not a guarantee that every client year will match another product without the same professional work.

Does Entrio replace FreeAgent?

No. Entrio doesn’t replace your accounting software. It replaces the hours before you open it. FreeAgent (or Xero, Sage, TaxCalc, IRIS, CCH) remains where the finished year and ongoing bookkeeping live.
